     While rehabilitating from spinal surgery in 2003, I stumbled on to something quite extraordinary. My freewill was stolen by an extended period of convalescence. I get more into the details in <Chapter Two.>

     I adopted a new philosophy as a way of coping or adapting to my new circumstances. My sedentary lifestyle did not change my diet.

     In fact, I chose to eat more of the things that bring me pleasure and in greater quantity.
 
     Food is a drug to many people. It is a comfort creature. My free-spirited nature chose indulgence with a full understanding that it would lead to weight gain. I had not expected to lose control and get that big. 
 
     I would like to tell you that, even heavy, I had the same swagger. But my confidence was subjective far too often. I did not like mirrors. I hated having my photo taken or to see myself on video at how large I had became.

     I smartened up slightly when it occurred to me that the additional weight was actually leading me into a longer period of convalescence.

     I have to take action. I will be riding around in one of those electric scooters. I will have heart disease, lung cancer from smoking, and depression because I was so friendly with misery.

     In October, 2006, I weighed over two-hundred and eighty pounds. After some trial and error, I applied a little science, and some good old common sense. By August 2007,I was a very lean one hundred and sixty pounds.

      When I finally realized the true scale of the population this approach could benefit, it became my personal obligation to write this book. From the morbidly obese, to the slightly overweight. It will help with anxiety, depression and is the perfect way to rehabilitate from chronic pain in the comfort of your home.

     It is so simple, that like me, you will wonder "why didn’t I think of doing that?" Fortunately, someone finally did - me. And I am happy to share my philosophy with you.
